But he ended up betraying Homunculus and he was punished with amnesia so Dr Wagner is really Eike Kusch. In the end it turns out Dr Wagner initially released Homunculus from the Stone and made a deal for eternal youth. He previously attempted to but failed due to his inexperience with alchemy and brought back the wrong soul. Hugo built a time machine to take revenge on Eike and to search for the Philosopher's Stone so that Hugo can resurrect his dead mom.

Through a series of events thats leads to the disappearance of Dr Wagner and the death of his wife, Eike finds out his unknown assailant is the son of Dr Wagner, Hugo. After much failed attempts Eike finds himself in the 15th century where he meets an alchemist, Dr Wagner. There Homunculus gives him a device that enables him to time travel and change his fate. In Shadow of Memories (or Shadow of Destiny in NA) you play as Eike Kusch who gets killed by an unknown assailant after visiting the fictional German town of Lebensbaum and his soul is transported into a realm where he meets Homunculus. The Heroic Legend of Arslan (Arslan Senki).
